Overview of the Magazine Industry

The magazine industry as a whole has remained in a stagnation process for the best part of 11 years, since Facebook was 'born' into existence by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004. Before the birth of social media, magazines such as Kerrang! were popular, in the 90's and early 2000's in particular. However, now that social media is constantly dominating the media industry as a whole, magazines are having to think of alternative ways of presenting their information, i.e. online. However, Kerrang! and Rock Sound are still as popular, if not more, than they were 20-30 years ago, as more genres of music have formed and more people are finding their own identities through music.

When the recession had struck the UK in 2008/2009, a lot of well-known names in the industry had cut down the rate of its publications, one example being Incisive Media's Mortgage Solutions magazine, to instead rely on its website and email alerts.
